The complete Dragon Ball franchise, be it in manga, anime or many videogame adaptations, would be nothing without its often insane retinue of heroes and villains. Whether you have a weakness for Z warriors generally overcome or want to exercise all the destructive power of an intergalactic tyrant like Frieza, Legends is happy to please you with a growing list of unlockable characters to train and fight.

The Summon system is the main way to get new characters. It's a Gacha-style random release mechanic that requires you to spend Chrono Crystals (the Legends premium currency) to unlock any of the game's many characters.
Your other option to unlock characters is the Event History mode. These limited-time missions generally reward small amounts of Z Power for a specific character related to the Event as a reward for the first time and to complete the Missions of the Event. These quests are usually really simple, like "fight a specific character 10 times", so be sure to check the list and try to unlock as many as you can to preserve the precious Energy.
Best characters - Rarities and types
So you got lucky and managed to unlock Goku, the iconic hero of the series, and Vegeta, the powerful Prince of all the Saiyan. All you need to do is add them to your group of six and start destroying your enemies, right? Not quite.
While Dragon Ball's traditionally most powerful characters are usually among the best to use in Legends, you should consider two variables: rarity and types.
Currently, there are four different variants of Goku in Dragon Ball Legends, each based on a different part of the ongoing Dragon Ball saga.
Two of these (in the gallery above) are based on Goku's powers and abilities during Frieza's arc. These are the rarity of sparks, and currently the strongest characters in the game. However, the variant Super Saiyan Goku is a remote type, while the version that carries a blatant spirit bomb is a type of defense. They also have different elements, which is also important (more on this in the next section).
As expected, the Range Type is capable of triggering devastating blast attacks, while the Defense Type is more tuned to absorb the damage.
The last two Gokus are based on the Saiyan saga. One is a type of melee of extreme rarity, while the other is a kind of rank of hero rarity.
In general, you want to point to a balance of the four types, the last one is the Support, in your group of six people to combat difficult opponents (especially in PvP). In the same way, you will not want to fill your entire party with rare hero characters, since these are the most common Invocations retreats and, therefore, are the weakest of all.
Extreme characters are not as strong as Sparking variants, but they usually have enough base strength to be useful when they are level and lit.
Understanding of leveling, training, limit interruptions, Soul Boost, Class Up and equipment
Appropriately for a series in which most heroes spend half the time training, there are several ways to increase the stats of a character in Dragon Ball Legends. I will review them one by one to avoid any confusion (trust me, it becomes very confusing to try to keep track of them all).
Story EXP: This is the simple one. Each character in your group gains experience (EXP) when completing a stage of History or Event. You can complete this several times until your Energy runs out.
EXP Training: Go to the Training menu, select a character and wait for an assigned time for an extra EXP. Use training weights to increase EXP gains. There is also an option for limited time training, but nothing has appeared here yet. It's worth noting that you set up a character to train and to

you can simply choose the characters you want from the franchise, but you'll have to be lucky with a good Summon or complete a lot of Event rewards.

Each day you will be granted a unique discount on the first Summon, reducing the cost to only 20 Crystals. Otherwise, you will have to spend 100 crystals per invocation. While you can remove duplicates, these are also useful as they update the Z power levels of the existing characters (we explain why it is important later)
